3 Ways to Save More Energy in Spring

Read Up on our - 3 Ways to Save More Energy in Spring blog

Spring is just around the corner! We are excited for the weather getting warmer and the days getting longer because solar panels in East Anglia will start generating lots of cheaper, environmentally friendly electricity. Here are three ways you can leverage the change of the seasons to save more energy in spring!

Make the most of nature

Although the UK can occasionally get a dusting of snow in March, the weather mostly starts getting warmer around this time of year.

To save some energy you can get outdoors. Spending time outside means you can keep yourself busy without using energy at home. When at home, energy usage can significantly creep out as we often use heating, lights, appliances and devices to keep us entertained all at once.

Saving energy and money are not the only benefits of getting outside more! There is also mounting evidence that spending more time out in nature can immensely improve mental and physical wellbeing. A study found that people can reap these rewards by spending as little as 2 hours in nature per week.

Anyway, going back to energy savings, mother nature can give you a helping hand in drying your washing too! Drying clothes on the line uses no energy and is completely free whereas using a tumble dryer could set the average user back by up to around ยฃ216 per year according to Ideal Home! As this figure is based on the October price cap, and energy costs will rise again for most people in April 2023, the cost of running a tumble dryer is likely to become even higher.

Be smart with your thermostat

The next way to be energy savvy in spring is paying attention to your thermostat. The chances are that you wonโ€™t need to have your thermostat turned up as high or your heating switched on for as long as you did during the winter.

At the moment, itโ€™s worth changing the settings on your thermostat so that you are using less energy to heat your home.

Use longer daylight hours to your advantage

As we move into spring, lots of us are celebrating the mornings and nights getting lighter again! One of the most obvious ways that this helps you to save more energy is by making the most of the daylight to keep lights switched off for longer.

To use the daylight hours to help you save even more energy in spring and summer, we highly recommend that you install solar PV at your home. We are about to enter into the peak season for solar energy because 70% of the UKโ€™s solar power is generated between from March to the end of September. Therefore, if you want to save as much as possible as you can on your energy bills. Now is the time to install solar!
